These easy turkey-shaped chocolate cake pops are a festive and delicious Thanksgiving treat made with simple ingredients like cake mix and frosting. They are perfect for holiday parties, kids, and last-minute dessert needs.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 15.25 oz Yellow or Vanilla Cake Mix
  • 16 oz Chocolate Frosting (canned, not whipped)
  • 1/2 tsp Salt
  • 4 oz Orange Candy Melts or White Chocolate
  • 8 oz Dark or Semi-Sweet Chocolate Chips
  • 2 oz White Candy Melts or White Chocolate Chips
  • Chocolate Sprinkles or Crushed Nuts (Optional, for feathers)
  • Lollipop sticks

Instructions

  1. Preheat oven to 350°F (175°C) and bake the cake mix according to package directions. Let it cool completely.
  2. Crumble the cooled cake into fine crumbs in a large bowl.
  3. Mix in the chocolate frosting gradually until the mixture holds together like playdough.
  4. Roll the mixture into 1-inch balls and place them on a parchment-lined baking sheet.
  5. Freeze the cake balls for at least 30 minutes until rock hard.
  6. Melt the dark chocolate chips, orange candy melts, and white chocolate chips separately in the microwave in 30-second intervals, stirring until smooth.
  7. Insert a lollipop stick into the bottom of each frozen cake ball.
  8. Dip each ball into the melted dark chocolate, coating completely, and place in a muffin tin to set.
  9. While the chocolate is still wet, use a toothpick or piping bag to add orange beak/wattle and white eyes.
  10. Sprinkle with chocolate sprinkles for feathers if desired.
  11. Let the pops sit at room temperature for 15-20 minutes until the chocolate is fully hardened before serving.

Notes

Ensure cake balls are completely cold before dipping to prevent sliding. If chocolate is too thick, add a teaspoon of coconut oil. For gluten-free, use GF cake mix. For vegan, use dairy-free frosting and chocolate.
