A warm, spiced caramel apple cider sangria that is perfect for fall gatherings. This crowd-pleasing pitcher drink combines apple cider, bourbon or rum, fresh fruit, and caramel sauce for a sophisticated yet easy-to-serve beverage.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 1 gallon Apple Cider (fresh, unpasteurized preferred)
  • 1.5 cups Apple Brandy or Bourbon
  • 1 cup Dark Rum
  • 2–3 medium Fresh Apples (firm varieties like Honeycrisp or Fuji)
  • 1–2 medium Pears (Bosc or Anjou)
  • 1 cup Caramel Sauce
  • 2 Cinnamon Sticks
  • 2 Star Anise Pods
  • 1 inch piece Fresh Ginger (sliced thin)
  • 1 large Orange (sliced into rounds)

Instructions

  1. Wash and slice apples, pears, and ginger into uniform wedges or coins. Slice orange into rounds.
  2. Pour the gallon of apple cider into a large glass pitcher.
  3. Add the apple brandy (or bourbon) and dark rum to the pitcher and stir gently to combine.
  4. If the caramel sauce is thick, microwave it briefly to loosen. Pour into the pitcher while stirring continuously to emulsify it into the cider.
  5. Add cinnamon sticks, star anise, and sliced ginger to the liquid.
  6. Add all sliced fruit to the pitcher and gently push them down to submerge them in the liquid.
  7. Cover the pitcher tightly and refrigerate for at least 4 hours, preferably overnight, to allow flavors to meld.
  8. Before serving, stir the sangria well. Taste and adjust sweetness or strength if needed.
  9. Ladle into glasses with ice, ensuring each serving includes fruit. Garnish with a cinnamon stick or apple slice.

Notes

For a non-alcoholic version, omit spirits and replace with extra cider and vanilla extract. Use apple cider ice cubes to prevent dilution. If storing for more than 24 hours, strain out the fruit to prevent mushiness and cloudiness. Ensure caramel sauce is gluten-free if necessary.
