A rich, gooey dessert that combines a cake-like base with a crunchy pecan topping and a swirl of salted caramel sauce. It is easy to make, requires simple ingredients, and offers the perfect balance of sweet and salty flavors.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 1 cup (125g) all-purpose flour
  • 1 cup (200g) granulated sugar
  • 1 teaspoon (5g) baking powder
  • 1/2 teaspoon (3g) salt
  • 3/4 cup (180ml) milk
  • 1 teaspoon (5ml) vanilla extract
  • 1/2 cup (115g) unsalted butter, melted
  • 1 1/2 cups (170g) pecan halves
  • 1 cup (220g) brown sugar, packed
  • 1/2 cup (115g) butter, softened
  • 1 large egg, room temperature
  • 1 cup (240ml) salted caramel sauce

Instructions

  1. Preheat oven to 350°F (175°C) and grease a 9×9 inch baking dish.
  2. In a medium bowl, whisk together flour, granulated sugar, baking powder, and salt.
  3. Add milk, melted butter, and vanilla extract to the dry ingredients; whisk gently until smooth.
  4. In a separate bowl, mix softened butter and brown sugar until it resembles wet sand.
  5. Add the egg to the butter mixture and mix until smooth, then fold in pecan halves.
  6. Pour the batter into the prepared baking dish.
  7. Spoon the pecan mixture evenly over the batter without stirring.
  8. Drizzle salted caramel sauce over the pecan layer and gently swirl to create ribbons.
  9. Bake for 35-45 minutes until the top is golden brown and bubbly, and a toothpick inserted into the cake layer comes out clean.
  10. Cool in the pan for at least 10 minutes before serving warm.

Notes

Do not stir the layers together before baking; the batter should rise through the topping. Use room temperature ingredients for the topping to ensure proper mixing. If the caramel sauce is thick, microwave it briefly to make it easier to drizzle. Toasting pecans lightly can enhance their flavor. Leftovers can be stored in the refrigerator for up to 3 days or frozen for up to 2 months.
