Crispy Mummy Pigs in a Blanket: Easy Halloween Party Appetizer

Crispy Mummy Pigs in a Blanket - featured image

A fun and festive Halloween appetizer featuring mini hot dogs wrapped in flaky crescent dough to resemble mummies, served with a tangy mustard dip. Quick, easy, and perfect for parties.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 24–30 mini hot dogs (all-beef or turkey)
  • 1 can (15 oz) refrigerated crescent roll dough (or frozen puff pastry)
  • 1 large egg, beaten with 1 tablespoon water (for egg wash)
  • Yellow mustard (for dipping)
  • Sesame seeds (optional)
  • 2 tablespoons melted butter

Instructions

  1. Preheat oven to 375°F (190°C). Line two large baking sheets with parchment paper.
  2. Unroll the crescent dough onto a clean surface. Peel apart into triangles or sheets. If using sheets, cut into 1-inch wide strips.
  3. Place a mini hot dog at one end of a dough strip. Wrap the dough around the hot dog, leaving the ends exposed to create the ‘mummy’ look. Press ends gently to seal.
  4. Repeat with all hot dogs, arranging them on the prepared baking sheets with at least an inch of space between each.
  5. Brush the wrapped dogs generously with the egg wash. Sprinkle with sesame seeds if using, and brush lightly with melted butter.
  6. Bake for 12-15 minutes, rotating pans halfway through, until the dough is puffed and deep golden brown.
  7. Remove from oven and let cool on the pan for 2 minutes before serving warm with mustard.

Notes

Keep the dough cold to prevent sticking. Do not overcrowd the baking sheet to ensure crispiness. For a vegetarian version, substitute hot dogs with veggie dogs or halloumi cheese. Can be frozen raw and baked from frozen, adding 2-3 minutes to cook time.
