A vibrant and refreshing fruit salad featuring a hidden colored yogurt surprise to reveal a baby’s gender, perfect for celebrations and easy to prepare.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 2 cups strawberries, hulled and sliced
  • 1 cup green grapes, halved (seedless preferred)
  • 1 cup blueberries (fresh or frozen)
  • 2 kiwis, peeled and sliced
  • 1 cup pineapple chunks (fresh or canned)
  • 1 large apple, diced (preferably Granny Smith)
  • 1 cup vanilla yogurt (or coconut yogurt for dairy-free option)
  • Pink or blue gel food coloring
  • Optional toppings: chopped fresh mint leaves
  • Optional toppings: toasted coconut flakes
  • Optional toppings: honey or maple syrup drizzle

Instructions

  1. Wash all fruits thoroughly under cold water. Hull and slice the strawberries, halve the grapes, peel and slice the kiwis, dice the apple, and chunk the pineapple. This should take about 10 minutes.
  2. In a medium bowl, mix 1 cup of vanilla yogurt with about 5-7 drops of your chosen gel food coloring (pink or blue). Stir until the color is evenly blended but not too runny. Set aside.
  3. In your large serving bowl, start by placing a layer of mixed fruits (except blueberries) covering the bottom evenly. This is your fruit base.
  4. Gently spoon the colored yogurt into the center of the fruit layer, creating a hidden pool surrounded by fruit. Use the back of the spoon to smooth it out, but keep it slightly domed for a surprise effect.
  5. Scatter the blueberries and remaining fruit over the colored yogurt layer, covering it completely so no color peeks through. Take care not to mix the surprise with the outer fruits.
  6. Sprinkle with optional chopped mint or toasted coconut flakes if desired. Cover with plastic wrap and refrigerate for at least 30 minutes to let flavors meld and the surprise set.
  7. Serve chilled. Gently stir as guests serve themselves, revealing the colorful yogurt surprise hidden inside.

Notes

Use gel food coloring to prevent the yogurt from thinning and bleeding into the fruit layers. Chill the salad for at least 30 minutes before serving to let flavors meld and the surprise set. For best appearance, use firm fruits that hold their shape well. Toss apple pieces in a splash of lemon juice if prepping early to prevent browning. Prepare fruit the day before and add the yogurt surprise on the day of the event for freshness.
