A quick, stovetop caramel sauce made with brown sugar and butter, poured over crisp apple wedges and topped with Halloween candies for a festive, no-bake treat.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 2 cups packed brown sugar
  • 1/2 cup unsalted butter, cubed
  • 1/2 cup heavy cream or whole milk, room temperature
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
  • 1/2 teaspoon salt
  • 5 medium Honeycrisp or Fuji apples
  • 1 tablespoon lemon juice
  • Toothpicks or popsicle sticks
  • Halloween candy toppings (e.g., Reese’s Pieces, Mini M&Ms, crushed candy corn, white chocolate chips, sprinkles)

Instructions

  1. Wash and dry apples thoroughly. Slice into 1-inch wedges, keeping the core intact on each slice. Toss with lemon juice to prevent browning. Insert toothpicks or sticks into the bottom of each wedge.
  2. Line a baking sheet with parchment paper.
  3. In a medium heavy-bottomed saucepan, combine brown sugar, butter, and heavy cream over medium heat.
  4. Stir constantly with a silicone spatula for 5-7 minutes until the sugar dissolves and the mixture comes to a gentle boil.
  5. Continue stirring for another 3-4 minutes until the mixture thickens and coats the back of a spoon. Do not let it boil vigorously.
  6. Remove from heat and stir in vanilla extract and salt. Let cool for 2 minutes.
  7. Dip each apple wedge into the warm caramel, swirling to coat evenly. Let excess drip off.
  8. While the caramel is wet, roll the apple in chosen candy toppings, pressing gently to adhere.
  9. Place coated apples on the parchment-lined baking sheet.
  10. Let set at room temperature for 15-20 minutes until the caramel firms up.
  11. Serve immediately or store in an airtight container in the refrigerator for up to 3 days.

Notes

Ensure apples are completely dry before dipping to prevent caramel from sliding off. Use room temperature cream to prevent seizing. If caramel hardens in the pan, reheat gently on low heat. Do not refrigerate immediately after dipping to avoid condensation making them sticky.
