These Easy Mummy Hot Dogs are a fun and simple Halloween snack made with flaky puff pastry wrapped around juicy hot dogs. Ready in under 30 minutes, they’re perfect for parties and weeknight treats.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 1 sheet frozen puff pastry, thawed
  • 8 beef hot dogs
  • 1 large egg, beaten
  • Mustard dots for eyes
  • Sesame seeds or poppy seeds (optional)
  • Garlic powder or onion powder (optional)
  • Grated Parmesan cheese (optional)

Instructions

  1. Preheat your oven to 400°F (200°C). Line a baking sheet with parchment paper.
  2. Unfold the thawed pastry sheet on a lightly floured surface. Using a sharp knife or pizza cutter, cut the pastry into 8 long strips, each about half an inch wide.
  3. Take one strip of pastry and wrap it around a hot dog, starting at one end and working your way to the other. Leave a small gap (about a quarter inch) between each wrap. Tuck the end of the strip under the wrap to secure it. Repeat with the remaining hot dogs and pastry strips.
  4. Arrange the wrapped hot dogs on the prepared baking sheet, leaving about 2 inches between each one.
  5. Using a pastry brush, gently brush each mummy with the beaten egg.
  6. Before baking, place two tiny dots of mustard on each mummy’s ‘head’ (the end where you want the face).
  7. Place the baking sheet in the preheated oven and bake for 12-15 minutes, or until the pastry is golden brown and puffed.
  8. Let the mummy dogs rest on the baking sheet for 2-3 minutes before serving.

Notes

Keep the pastry cold for best flakiness. Leave gaps in the wrap for even cooking. Use egg wash generously to prevent unraveling. Watch the oven closely as puff pastry can burn quickly.
