These easy peanut butter banana protein balls are a quick, no-bake snack made with simple ingredients like oats, peanut butter, and ripe banana. Perfect for busy families, they come together in just five minutes and are a crowd-pleasing, healthy treat.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 1 cup rolled oats (use certified gluten-free oats if needed)
  • 1/2 cup creamy peanut butter (natural, no-stir variety works best)
  • 1 large ripe banana, mashed (about 1/2 cup)
  • 1/4 cup honey or maple syrup
  • 1/3 cup mini chocolate chips
  • 1/4 cup ground flaxseed or chia seeds (optional but recommended)
  • Pinch of salt

Instructions

  1. Mash the banana: Peel the ripe banana and place it in a large mixing bowl. Use a fork or potato masher to mash it until smooth and mostly lump-free, about 30 seconds.
  2. Add the wet ingredients: To the mashed banana, add the peanut butter and honey (or maple syrup). Stir with a rubber spatula until fully combined.
  3. Mix in the dry ingredients: Add the rolled oats, ground flaxseed (if using), and a pinch of salt. Stir until evenly incorporated. If the dough is too dry, add a teaspoon of milk or more peanut butter; if too wet, add another tablespoon of oats.
  4. Fold in the chocolate chips: Gently fold the mini chocolate chips into the dough until evenly distributed.
  5. Chill the dough (optional but recommended): Cover the bowl and refrigerate for 15-20 minutes to firm up the dough for easier rolling.
  6. Roll into balls: Using a small cookie scoop or tablespoon, portion out the dough and roll it between your palms into smooth balls. You should get about 12-15 balls. Place each on a parchment-lined baking sheet or plate.
  7. Chill to set: Refrigerate the tray of protein balls for at least 30 minutes to firm up.
  8. Store and enjoy: Transfer the protein balls to an airtight container and keep in the refrigerator for up to a week.

Notes

For best texture, use a very ripe banana (spotty and soft). If the dough is too sticky, add more oats; if too dry, add a splash of milk or more peanut butter. Chilling the dough before rolling makes it easier to handle. These protein balls taste even better the next day as flavors meld.
