Fresh Watermelon Mint Agua Fresca

fresh watermelon mint agua fresca recipe - featured image

A simple, refreshing summer drink made with just three ingredients: fresh watermelon, mint leaves, and cold water. Perfect for cooling off on hot days with a natural, hydrating beverage.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 4 cups diced seedless watermelon (about 600 grams or 1.3 pounds)
  • 1015 fresh mint leaves, washed and bruised
  • 2 cups cold filtered water (480 ml)
  • Optional: squeeze of fresh lime juice
  • Optional: teaspoon of honey or agave syrup for added sweetness

Instructions

  1. Cut watermelon into 1-inch cubes and remove any seeds if necessary (about 5 minutes).
  2. Gently bruise the mint leaves by tearing or smashing them to release their oils.
  3. Combine watermelon cubes, bruised mint leaves, and cold water in a blender. Blend on high for 1-2 minutes until smooth and vibrant red.
  4. Optional: Pour the blended mixture through a fine mesh sieve or cheesecloth into a pitcher, pressing gently to extract as much liquid as possible (about 5 minutes).
  5. Refrigerate the agua fresca for at least 30 minutes to chill and let flavors meld.
  6. Serve over ice, garnished with a sprig of fresh mint or a thin watermelon slice.

Notes

If watermelon is not sweet enough, add a teaspoon of honey or agave syrup before blending. Straining is optional depending on preferred texture. Frozen watermelon chunks can be used for a colder drink without diluting with ice. Keep the drink chilled for best flavor. Store leftovers in an airtight container in the refrigerator for up to 2 days and stir before serving.
